What exactly is Theatre Works?

Theatre Works is a school that teaches the theatrical arts to today's youth. Theatre Works provides children and teens (ages 7-19) with a triad of dance, drama, and vocal education. Individual growth is facilitated through instruction while encouraging students to explore their own creative energy.

We recognize the value of inspiration vs. direction and aim to create a fun, productive environment of respect, positivity, exploration and achievement. Our goal is to develop confident, skilled, well-rounded, and professional performers.

Our year is broken into 3 semesters. The fall and winter semesters engage students in a thorough and varied exploration of the three disciplines. The spring semester culminates with a full scale production of a musical at a professional theatre.

Vocally, students engage in various styles of performance from musical theatre to pop. They receive instruction on technique, and are challenged whenever possible to sing solo, harmonize, improvise, and characterize their vocal performance.

In Drama, students develop confidence through creativity and expression. The fundamentals of acting and stage technique are explored through improvisational theatre games, script work and your child's imagination.

In Dance, terminology, technique and etiquette are emphasized. Students explore various dance styles which may include jazz, funk, tap, and broadway. They are also exposed to the dances throughout time. Students have the opportunity to create, while learning basic choreography skills.

Theatre Works also stages periodic workshops on topics ranging from songwriting, breakdancing, mic technique, tap, dramatic improv, mask-work, care of the voice, stage-fighting, and many other elements.
